Who We Are

Letter Writing

Amnesty International members and friends write letters urging government officials in the U.S. and abroad to take action to support human rights by granting rights to refugees, stopping torture, disbanding militias that recruit child soldiers, and ending violence against women.

Advocacy

Our members meet with representatives in the U.S. Congress or state legislature to promote human rights reforms.

Demonstrations

Our members often participate in marches and peaceful demonstrations in support of domestic and international human rights.

Film Festival

Amnesty International USA brings the newest documentaries, short films, and full-length movies about human rights to film festivals around the country.

  • 2005 Amnesty International Film Festival – Pittsburgh (September 9-17, 2005)
  • 2004 Amnesty International Film Festival – Pittsburgh (March 26-April 3, 2004)

Write-a-Thon

Each year, Amnesty Pittsburgh hosts a mass letterwriting campaign based on human rights themes such as religious freedom, women’s rights, LGBT issues, and the death penalty.  Local community leaders and hundreds of people from the Pittsburgh area come together to urge government officials to end human rights abuses.
